2008 Dacalier Premierè Rosé

Tasting Notes:

The color reminds you of apricot roses or smoked salmon. Your nose takes you to warm summer days where strawberry, rhubarb, kiwi and melon are married with subtle hints of rose blossoms. Strawberry and a whisper of smoke on the palate lead you to subtle layers of complex fruit. A crisp round mouth feel and mellow, long, full finish completes the journey with A hint of blood orange.

Food Pairings:

Serve slightly chilled with goat cheese,  prosciutto wrapped melon, anything off the grill from portobella mushrooms to pork loin and don't forget grilled salmon.

Dacalier 2008 Premiere Rosé from Napa Valley is not “a rosé is a rosé is a rosé.” On the contrary, this is a glass of beautiful. The color shines salmon berry, orangy-pink, the color of watermelon flesh. And there may be a slight hint of melon on the nose, but it’s rather light and doesn’t exactly tee you up for what’s about to happen. Sip, swirl -- Bang! Whirl! Flavor fireworks ignite bright smoke and sausage – pepperoni, really. We dialed Pagliachi Pizza immediately and ordered their spiciest, Salumi Special stat! Honestly, Heathcliff, what a bombshell! As the night persists, so does this wine as it evolves from white pepper and petrol and to a luscious frozen strawberry. It’s a mysterious delight, and after trivial deliberation, I’d add, one of the better rosés, and The German agrees.

Retails for $15.99 -- a great Napa value wine!

Dacalier “Premiere Rose” Lake County 2008 (USA)   Pink salmon color. The nose is fresh and wonderfully complex with notes of strawberry, rhubarb, tea berries, dried apricot, and star fruit with accents of spring flowers. The palate is a unique animal indeed. Ripe and tart berries mingle with a distinct flavor of Lapsang Souchong tea and hints of mineral. Ideally balanced and perfect with smoked salmon or charcuterie. Bravo!

"50+4+12+17+7 It took some time for the nose to open, then I got hints of strawberry, citrus, apricot, and white blossoms. Copious strawberry and tangerine with floral and a hint of peach and a crisp mouth feel with nice acidity. More tangerine and peach on the finish. Nice balance. Chill and pop, it's a great summer wine." - 90 Points  - Annerk  4/1/09
